Spar Trials Digital Signage With Cellphone Vouchers [aka.tv]

South African digital signage specialist, One Digital Media has linked with Mobilitrix to release a new Mobile Voucher concept for Superspar stores across South Africa.

ODM, which has more than 5000 screens in retail locations, is the exclusive provider of digital signage for the Spar Group, and has in-store screens in 134 SuperSpars.

The Mobilitrix system will first be tested with Superspar prior to a national roll out of the system. The concept is that brand sponsored promotions in the form of mobile voucher received on cellphones will be directly redeemable at the tills in any of the stores.

AKA COMMENT

With paper coupons fading in popularity and loyalty cards piling up in the wallets of consumers, it makes sense to deliver redeemable vouchers to people's mobile phones at the point of purchase.

Mobile phone marketing is likely to be contraversial, as most people consider their phones to be a part of their private space and will quickly tire of unwanted messaging. However the combination of immediacy, relevant messaging and real value to consumers (with discounts and money off), has be the power to be a highly effective brand building mechanism.
